STEAM VS. CHEMICAL TREATMENTS TO KILL BED BUGS
The ideal temperature to kill bed bugs is anything over 45oC and the best way to achieve such temperatures quickly and efficiently is through the use of steam. The use of steam to kill bed bugs is extremely effective because it not only kills full size bugs but bugs at all stages of development from the eggs upwards which most insecticides are incapable of doing.
Chemicals will not kill the bed bug eggs. It’s common for eggs to start hatching within one to two weeks after a chemical treatment – This is because chemical insecticides will not penetrate the beg bug casing and kill the eggs. Steam on the other hand, heats bed bugs and their eggs to temperatures which instantly destroy them. Chemicals treatments rely on a bed bug to inhale/absorb their mostly dangerous compounds. This method kills bed bugs more slowly and has no impact on the embryos within eggs. If no active chemical residual is present when these eggs hatch, the breeding cycle continues.
