STEAM VERSUS CHEMICAL TREATMENTS TO KILL BED BUGS AND THEIR EGGS
The perfect temperature to kill bed bugs is anything over 45°C and the ideal way to achieve these temperatures quickly and efficiently is by using steam. Using steam to kill bed bugs is incredibly effective as it doesn’t just kill full size bugs but bugs at all stages of growth, from the eggs onwards. The majority of insecticides are unable to do this.
Chemicals will not kill all of the bed bug eggs. It’s normal for eggs to start hatching within one or two weeks after the chemical treatment has been used. This happens because chemical insecticides are unable to penetrate the bed bug shell and kill the eggs. The beauty of steam is that it heats bed bugs and their eggs to temperatures which completely destroy them. Chemical treatments rely on bed bugs to absorb their most dangerous compounds. Unfortunately, this method kills bed bugs at a slower pace and has no impact on the embryos in the eggs. If no active chemical residual is present when these eggs hatch, the breeding cycle will once again continue.
REMOVAL OF BEDBUGS IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
In the hospitality industry, time is money. The main limitation with chemicals is that fumigated rooms cannot be occupied for many days or possibly weeks following chemical treatment. The real cost can run into hundreds or even thousands of dollars in vacant rooms. Using steam to kill bed bugs only takes a couple of hours so the rooms are ready for occupancy straight away. From a health perspective, chemical treatments expose your customers to harmful chemicals some of which have well documented links to asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome and cancer. The use of steam is chemical free, completely natural and ideal for those who suffer from allergies. In the hospitality industry this is essential as it eliminates any fear of guests suffering allergic reactions or taking legal action.
